Kathak is a form of classical Indian dance and popular all around the world. It is one of the eight forms of Indian classical dances.
Kathak is characterized with fast footwork and numerous “chakkars” or spins used in the compositions. The word Kathak comes from Sanskrit word katha, which means story. The ancient kathakas, or storytellers, were traveling bards who were the first to employ this dance in order to better communicate their stories to the masses.
It is a very complicated dance form need lots of foot work and precise rhythmic patterns that the dancer articulates by controlling ankle bells. Both men and women dance kathak, which often conveys moods of love.
Madhuri Dixit is the most famous & beautiful Kathak dancer in India. British dancer Akram Khan is also known for his fusion of kathak and contemporary dance styles.
